Nvidia releases GeForce Hotfix driver 378.72 by Martin Brinkmann on February 18, 2017 in Windows – 7 commentsNvidia released a Geforce Hotfix driver recently that addresses two issues in the GeForce Game Reader 378.66 WHQL drivers released on February 14, 2017.The GeForce Game Reader 378.66 WHQL drivers for Nvidia video cards was released on February 14th, 2017. It added optimizations for the games For Honor, Halo Wars 2, Sniper Elite 4, and Nvidia Ansel for Paragon, new features, and a number of fixes.Game Ready drivers are designed to improve the experience of players, usually through optimizations for the supported games.Among the new features are support for high-bit depth decoding (VP9/HEVC), H.264 ME-only mode enhancements, and several fixes for games (Battlefield, Heroes of the Storm), and general video card issues.Reports about issues with the new GeForce 378.66 driver began to appear shortly after release. One reason why reports started to appear this fast is Nvidia’s focus on pushing out drivers via the company’s own GeForce Experience software.GeForce Experience gets installed by default alongside other Nvidia drivers and software when a GeForce display driver is installed. The latest versions of GeForce Experience work only if you register an account. We suggest you select custom installation, to install only the Nvidia drivers you require, as it keeps the system lean.GeForce Hotfix driver 378.72Nvidia released the GeForce Hotfix driver 378.72 on February 16th, 2017. It fixes two issues in the WHQL driver the company released two days earlier:Fixed hardware encoding in Steam (In-Home Streaming).Resolved PhysX being forced to CPU when “Optimize for Compute Performance” setting is OFF.If you have installed the Nvidia WHQL 378.66 driver already, you may want to download and install the hotfix on PCs to fix these issues. It is not necessary to download the hotfix if you don’t use the video card for gaming however. The hotfix is offered for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.Note that you may want to uninstall the old Nvidia driver completely before you install the hotfix.A thread on Reddit suggests that the two issues are not the only Nvidia GeForce 378.66 issues the driver causes. Several users mention issues in Google’s Chrome web browser, among them a crash issue when skipping videos on YouTube. Text may also be bold on Google sites such as YouTube or Google Search after the update. Not all Google Chrome users appear to run into the crash issue. Those who do may want to try and disable hardware acceleration in the web browser for the time being as it is said to resolve the issue. You do this by loading chrome://settings/ in the Google Chrome address bar, clicking on “show advanced settings” on the page, and removing the checkmark from “use hardware acceleration when available”.Nvidia GeForce driver 378.66 is not the first driver that caused a series of issues in recent time. Both Nvidia GeForce driver 375.57 and driver 375.86 were causing issues as well. Now Read: Disable Nvidia Telemetry on Windows PCsSummaryArticle NameNvidia releases GeForce Hotfix driver 378.72DescriptionNvidia released a Geforce Hotfix driver recently that addresses two issues in the GeForce Game Reader 378.66 WHQL drivers released on February 14, 2017.Author Martin BrinkmannPublisher Ghacks Technology NewsLogo Advertisement
Fixing “the page you requested cannot be found” in Chrome when accessing Microsoft sites by Martin Brinkmann on December 11, 2018 in Google Chrome – 9 commentsBack in 2016, I received This site can’t be reached error messages when I tried to access pages on microsoft.com in the Google Chrome browser to download Windows 10.I could access the pages just fine in other browsers, e.g. in Firefox or Microsoft Edge, but Chrome would always return a not found error message. The fix back then was to delete cookies set by Microsoft’s site as they somehow interfered with the connection.Over the past couple of weeks, I started to get a slightly different issue when accessing Microsoft pages in the Chrome browser.Any page on Microsoft’s website, https://www.microsoft.com/, e.g. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewiso, returned a “not found error”.We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found. The URL may be misspelled or the page you’re looking for is no longer available. The issue was limited to a particular instance of Google Chrome. Chrome Canary, also installed on the device, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and any other browser I tried, loaded the page and others just fine.I knew that the issue that I experienced was not system-wide; only Google Chrome could not connect to pages on the Microsoft website while all other browsers could.Fixing the issueWhile there are plenty of possible explanations for the issue, I decided to try the tested “delete all cookies” solution that fixed the issue in 2016 first.Tap on the F12 button while in Chrome or select Menu > More Tools > Developer Tools to display the developer toolbar in Google Chrome.Select Application > Cookies from the sidebar on the left.Activate the https://www.microsoft.com/ entry to display all cookies set by the domain.Delete all cookies. Note: deleting cookies may require that you authenticate again if you use services or when you try to access certain areas on the site.Reload the page that did not load. The page that would not load previously loaded just fine afterward.I tested several pages on Microsoft’s website and they all loaded without any issues.ConclusionI don’t know how widespread the issue is; if you run into it, try clearing cookies in the browser that you experience the connection issues with to see if it resolves it.It is possible that the issue will come back in this form or another at a later point in time. You could auto-clean cookies set by Microsoft’s domain to avoid the issue but that would mean that you would have to sign in each time you want to access pages or services that require authentication. Now You: Have you experienced issues like this?SummaryArticle NameFixing “the page you requested cannot be found” in Chrome when accessing Microsoft sitesDescriptionOver the past couple of weeks, I started to get “the page you requested cannot be found” errors when accessing microsoft.com pages in Chrome.Author Martin BrinkmannPublisher Ghacks Technology NewsLogo Advertisement
Image: apple/mashable photo compositeBy Adam Rosenberg2018-12-22 17:45:00 UTC Apple has already confirmed that it’s fine if some newer iPad Pros don’t lie completely flat, but now there’s an actual numeric measurement for acceptable iPad bendiness.Apple’s Dan Riccio, VP of hardware engineering at the company, confirmed the detail in an email. Riccio sent the note as a response to a customer who had written to Apple CEO Tim Cook with concerns about the company’s suggestion that warped iPads aren’t actually the product of a manufacturing defect. It’s a situation that’s been brewing since a November video that went viral purported to show how easily Apple’s latest iPad Pro could be bent. (Mashable’s own review found that it would take more than a “moderate” amount of pressure to produce the result seen in that video.)On Wednesday, Apple broke its silence to address the issue. The company confirmed that yes, some iPad Pro units ship with a slightly bent aluminum chassis. But Apple added that it’s an occasional product of the manufacturing process, and it’s not something that will worsen over time.Basically: Apple said it’s not a defect. Now there’s this email from Riccio. His response, posted in full on MacRumors, puts an exact number on what Apple would consider an acceptable amount of physical warping. Our current specification for iPad Pro flatness is up to 400 microns which is even tighter than previous generations. This 400 micron variance is less than half a millimeter (or the width of fewer than four sheets of paper at most) and this level of flatness won’t change during normal use over the lifetime of the product. Note, these slight variations do not affect the function of the device in any way. Riccio’s email also apparently referenced Apple’s Wednesday clarification. He said that the details attributed to Apple in the story from The Verge didn’t include a company statement, and that such a statement would be sent to media outlets. It’s worth noting that the above details are paraphrased in the MacRumors story, so we may be missing some of the specifics here. Mashable reached out to Apple for further comment, and we’ll update this story once we hear back.

Cancun, Q.R. — A truck that collided with a center ridge in the Cancun Hotel Zone was left overturned affecting traffic. The accident occurred at kilometer four of the Cancun Hotel Zone when the driver of a truck miscalculated his turn and hit a meridian, causing his vehicle to overturn onto its side. The collision and topple resulted in a gas and oil spill over the roadway. Members of the Tourist Police arrived saying the driver was likely driving too fast when he lost control and collided with the central ridge, making contact with a concrete structure that marked the kilometer along Boulevard Kukulcán. Although the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries, he was not transported to hospital. Members of the Cancun Fire Department also arrived on scene to clean up the fuel and oil spill.
