first_img ACC Network Extra Story Links Live Stats NC State 2 – Louisville 1 Next Game: vs. North Carolina 5/9/2019 | 1:30 p.m. Previewcenter_img Watch Live Full Schedule Roster Senior Madison Cousineau’s home run in the sixth helped the University of Louisville softball team erase a 1-0 deficit, but an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh lifted NC State to a 2-1 win in the final game of the regular season Sunday afternoon at Dail Softball Stadium.Louisville (33-20, 12-12 ACC) will return to action next week in the ACC Championship.Redshirt senior Sidney Melton, junior Celene Funke and sophomore Maddy Newman each had a pair of hits and Cousineau collected Louisville’s only RBI as the Cards outhit the Wolfpack 8-4.The Wolfpack (29-26, 9-15 ACC) used two walks and two hits, including an RBI single by Skylar Johnston to take a 1-0 lead in the first.  After four scoreless innings, the Cardinals broke through behind Madison Cousineau’s solo home run in the fifth. The senior catcher’s first homer of the season evened the score at 1-1.NC State’s game-winner came in the home half of the seventh when Sam Russ reached on a leadoff error, stole second and came home on April Visser’s single to left field for the 2-1 final.Louisville had an early scoring opportunity when Funke and Melton led off the game with back-to-back singles and senior Megan Hensley walked to load the bases, but a strikeout and a double play stranded all three runners. The Cards also had bases loaded in the fourth after hits by Newman and Funke and a walk to Melton, but could not capitalize and would go on to leave 10 runners on base in the game.Redshirt freshman Taylor Roby (13-4) took the loss after giving up one unearned run on two hits and striking out one in 3.0 innings of relief.Kama Woodall (3-3) got the win, retiring all six batters she faced in the final two innings.LOUISVILLE TEAM NOTES: • Louisville leads the series with NC State 10-6• As a team, Louisville has registered a program-record 99 stolen bases on 114 attempts on the season.
