Greek beaches maintain Blue Flag level of quality

first_imgDoing even better than last year, the Greek beaches still remain some of the best in the world when it comes to quality. That can be confirmed by the fact that 519 of Greece’s beaches have received the coveted Blue Flag award, coming second out of 47 other nations; only Spain had more and came first with 590.In addition, 15 Greek marinas and one sustainable tourism boat also received the award, further solidifying the quality of the Greek waters. The improvement, when compared to the previous year is obvious, as only 486 beaches and 12 marinas were approved then, which is still quite an impressive number. The Blue Flag distinction is only given to beaches that have met certain strict educational, environmental, safety and access-related criteria; it is awarded by the Foundation of Environmental Education, which maintains its headquarters in the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen.
