ECISD board to consider charter contract, superintendent search

first_imgECISD board agendaThe Ector County Independent School District Board of Trustees will meet to consider approving modifications to a charter contract with Ector Success Academy Network, a nonprofit entity that would take over Ector Middle School this fall.Ector Middle School, Noel and Zavala elementary schools are in their fifth year of improvement required under state accountability standards. If the campuses don’t come off the list, they will face closure or the Texas Education Commissioner will appoint a board of managers over the whole district.The modifications up for approval are to the charter performance contract.The agreement, which would take effect in July, could potentially be for 10 years, but if quick success is not achieved they could be out in two years. TEA’s sanctions would be stayed for those two years.On a separate item, the board will discuss a request for approval of adoption of the 2018-19 budget. The 2017-18 budget is $242,849,264 and the estimated 2018-19 budget is $269,065,282 and is based on passage of an 8 cent tax ratification election.The board will also discuss the process of beginning a superintendent search.Superintendent Tom Crowe announced last month that he was stepping down in December.Some of the other items on the agenda are:>> Discussion of a request for approval of a reorganization of the board of trustees naming president, vice president and secretary. The president is currently Carol Gregg; vice president is Doyle Woodall; and the secretary is Donna Smith.>> Discussion of a request for approval of adoption of a resolution authorizing issuance of $20 million in maintenance tax notes.>> State Rep. Brooks Landgraf, R-Odessa, is on the agenda to address the board.>> Discussion of a memorandum of understanding between Ector County ISD and Odessa College regarding OCTECHS early college high school.>> Discussion of a request for approval of 2016 insurance roof removal and replacement for Cavazos Elementary, Frost Technical Education Center, maintenance and transportation buildings and George H.W. Bush New Tech Odessa.
