Two dead after fatal crash in West Odessa

first_img Twitter Local News TAGS  WhatsApp Facebook Pinterest Twitter Pinterestcenter_img By Odessa American – February 24, 2021 DPS Logo A 21-year-old Odessan and a 26-year-old Mineral Wells man died in a two-vehicle collision on Wednesday afternoon, a Department of Public Safety release detailed.The reported fatal collision happened at 11:48 a.m. near the intersection of W. 16th St. and North Avenue I, the release stated.Joseph Payne, 26, of Mineral Wells was reportedly driving a 2002 Toyota Avalon with passengers Hunter Miller, 21, of Odessa and Magen Cantrell, 22, of Odessa. Tyrice Lowery, 36, of Midland was reportedly driving a 2009 Cadillac with Veronica Rodriguez, 33, of Midland as a passenger.The Avalon was driving west in the right lane of W. 16 St., while the Cadillac traveling west in the left lane of W. 16th St., the release stated.The Avalon reportedly changed lanes when unsafe and collided with the Cadillac. The Avalon lost control after the initial impact, rolled and collided with a utility pole.Payne and Miller were transported to Medical Center Hospital and were later pronounced dead by medical staff, the release detailed. Cantrell was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with incapacitating injuries.Lowery and Rodriguez were transported to MCH with non-incapacitating injuries, the release stated. An MCH official said over the phone on Thursday afternoon that Lowery and Rodriguez weren’t in the MCH system.It was unknown if Payne, Miller or Cantrell were wearing their seatbelts, the release stated. Lowery and Rodriguez were both wearing their seatbelts.
